School Practicum
Semester 1: Rouge Park Public School
Semester 2: Blue Willow Public School

Most other teacher candidates are placed in one school with one mentor teacher for the duration of their practicum, however, I had the opportunity to complete my placements in two schools with three different mentor teachers. Moving around a lot, being in different environments, was hard — especially as a first time person going through this process. But one thing that never changed was my genuine care for my students. I think it was that dedication, that consistency, that really carried me through the rougher times. In fact, I now believe that these transitions helped me to learn even more. Each change offered new perspectives, new models of teaching, new approaches to school culture that challenged me in my growth personally and professionally.

On my second placement, I planned and taught an entire unit over multiple weeks, and assessed students across a number of subject areas. In doing so, I learned many of the little things that I hadn’t noticed before — not just in terms of conveying content, but also in classroom management and in understanding students’ emotional and psychological needs.

Lastly, I would like to take a moment to thank all of my mentor teachers for always putting the students first and always giving me their time, energy, and knowledge. The influence of their extensive experience and thoughtful guidance had a profound impact on me, and they will surely impact and grow my teaching practice in the future.
